TiVo works with cable, satellite and even antenna. Tivo
can also be setup to work with existing VCRs and DVD players. Many Tivo DVRs can record up
to 240 hours worth of material, but this is mostly dependent on the size of the hard drive

Does Tivo work with Dish Network Receivers?
Tivo Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) are compatible with
most DISH network receivers. If your satellite receiver supports IR control (most do),
Tivo should work with your satellite TV service. However, if you have a receiver that does
not support IR control, your Tivo DVR will not be able to change channels to record shows.
